Everett Lodge #137, Free and Accepted Masons of

The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Washington

Welcome Brethren.

Masonry- Every Day, Every Way

Part of being a Mason is being a leader…. .by example.  Expressed in the truism that “You are what you do. Not what you say, not what you profess, but by the trail of your actions.”  What decisions you make, and the resulting actions, paint the picture of whom and what you are.  Like some art, there is a picture underlying the main image that the casual observer never sees.  But, like some of the pop art pictures, when you look at it long enough, the true picture appears.  There are many in our society who present the pop art as themselves.  Many have a different picture or layer to display, depending on surrounding.  Masons are the same at every level, holding the virtues as the light for which all can see.  Few true leaders were other than exactly whom they appeared to be.  Now, you may be thinking that I am talking about the founding father & mothers, our war and civil servant (fire/police) heroes and that would be true.  But more to the every day, every way point; think of those teachers, those volunteers that support practically every church and civil activity.  Aren’t they the same people you see in Lodge and the other bodies every month?   Yep,  thought so.  Every Day, Every Way

PS: Notes, articles, contributions can be submitted through the http://www.everett137.org/ web site, through the Master or Secretary, or sent to the Lodge through the Everett Masonic Center.

The Softer Side -  April is filled with opportunities for the Ladies of Everett Lodge 137!   On Monday, April 24th, the Lodge will be hosting a Pot-Luck Dinner.   Please bring your favorite dish to share with others.  Dinner will begin at 6:30pm.   While the men are attending to their Lodge duties, the Ladies will be having some fun in the dining hall.   We will be playing White Elephant Bingo.   If you'd like to join in the fun, please bring a wrapped white elephant gift to add to the winner's selection.   On Saturday, April 29th, the Masonic Center will be hosting a neighborhood-wide garage sale.   Funds raised at the Lodge's booth will go towards purchasing new visitor aprons for the Lodge guests.   If you have an item or two that you'd like to donate to this worthy cause, please bring it to the Center on Saturday morning; the items should be clean and priced to sell!    Everett Lodge 137 will also be "hosting" the CHIPs program on that day.   I am seeking volunteers to cover the registration booth for this special event.   If you would like to help, please give me a call!   Don't forget to mark your calendars for May 20th.   That is the day for the Roche Harbor Outdoor Degree.   This is a very special ceremony for the gentlemen in our lives...and a fun shopping trip for us!   Keep watch for complete details....

The Broken Column   Thankfully, nothing to report this month.

What’s new – The Everett Lodge Officers decided to participate in the Masters & Wardens competition for this year.  This is where the Master and Wardens pit themselves against the other lodge officers, first within the district, and then against the other district winners around the state.  If you will remember, Everett represented the district in the state competition in Wenatchee last year.  We were recognized and commended at Grand Lodge for our efforts.  The competition was outstanding and few point separated the three competitors.  When all was said and done, Your Lodge, Everett #137 was declared the winner.  I must compliment the other lodges and their officers for the competition made it exciting as well as challenging.  And we look forward to more and better competition next year.  Your Officers are to be congratulated for their outstanding performance. We are now preparing  for the state-wide competition, to be held in Wenatchee in May.  Wish us well.

Visitation:  Brethren, you really missed an opportunity to be impressed when 5 members of your lodge paid a visit to Rainbow #9 on March 22.  Not only were we warmly received, but made to feel welcomed and appreciated.  All attending, and for most of us it was the first time to visit a Rainbow Chapter, were quite impressed.  They were serious and presented themselves with decorum when it was called for and ready to enjoy the moment with equal enthusiasm. Most impressive was the apron lecture. Many of us forget all the ideals and references within our Masonic Aprons, but these ladies know.  I hope I can prevail upon them to share this lecture in Lodge some evening.  Brethren, If you have never visited a Rainbow, you really should attend as soon as you can.  It won't hurt, you'll have fun and you may even learn a few things.

2006 District 8 Calendar books are available.  Contact me if you want a copy of the District Eight Calendars ; cost is $3.00.

Yard Sale – April 29th.  The Everett Masonic Center Parking Lot will be the site of a Huge, Gigantic, Humongous Yard Sale.  In conjunction with the Olympic View Historic Neighborhood Association, Everett Lodge will rope off most of the spaces for individuals to set up for sales.  The Everett Lodges have 4 spaces reserved for their use.  Members and friends that would care to donate items are requested to contact me  (Sam Roberts) for more details.  Monies raised for Everett Lodge will be used to purchase new aprons.  In addition to donations, the Rainbow Girls will be offering refreshments and the CHIPs (Child Identification Program) will be set up to provide the program for the children and elderly.  Volunteers to direct setup/tear down,  guides for the Center and Lodge room, and to assist CHIPs will be needed.  If you can help, Please e-mail or otherwise contact me.

Soap Box  -  …Communication and more communication.  My goal for the year is to GREATLY improve communication in and around the Lodge.  Many of the brethren have wondered what I am doing to increase membership, improve attendance and practice ritual. Well, communication.  The Trestle board is back, on the web , thru e-mail and ups mail (hard copy).  Each of the officers now (or soon will) have a membership call list, where each officer has only 8-9 members on their list to call to announce upcoming events and visitations.  Expect to hear from “your officer” soon.  Expect to hear from the WM. I intend to have individually talked to every single member of the lodge before the nest installation.  You can help.  If you would like to help, please contact me and I am sure that the officers would not mind making sharing…  or as you get notice of an event, by call, e-mail or however, call your brethren.  Make sure that they know what is going on. You may find someone to go with.
